i already have a helmet...

uh oh. these guys make me want a motorcycle.
nobody tell my wife...
but really, how badass are these?
all the work of the wrenchmonkees.
makes me feel like a detroit guy would be at home in copenhagen.
the horrors of typography.

who doesn't love violence towards plastic army men?
grab a magnifying glass or a lighter and join the party.
it's the alphabet of pain.
the work of oliver munday.
beards, guns and gum.

just 4 of my favorites from a kickass series by jason travis; persona.
look how much we reveal about ourselves by the things we haul around.
hipsters are awesome. look at all that cool stuff.
mine would be a pretty sad shoot: iphone, wallet, keys, chapstick.

bits of beaver
aaaah. beaver island.
no one seems to know where it is.
even my fellow michiganders.
it's pretty much smack dab between the upper and lower peninsulas
...in lake michigan.
you can ferry or fly. camp or lodge.
hike or sail. fish or swim.
sandy beaches. imposing cliffs. inland lakes.
you name it.
beaver island.
oh, except greek yogurt.
don't be a boob and ask the tiny market if they carry it.
don't be a boob and ask the tiny market if they carry it.
be happy with the honey nut cheerios
and maybe grab some beef jerky and chili cheese fritos on the way out
to try and save face.
anyway, these are a few bits
from my long beaver island weekend
at the wanty lake house.
courtesy of my dear, dear friend dootie's great-grandparents.
first thing that catches your eye is this gorgeous cathrine holm.
this was my breezy room. hey there's my forestbound pouch!
oh hai, vera neumann butterfly and blossom sheets.
thanks for being so soft and smooth.
thanks for being so soft and smooth.
this is a great place to read with your morning coffee.
the deck is surrounded by pines and beachy ferns
and looks out towards the beach. it's so quiet!
well, until we put our mix tapes in this fancy number.
sandy beach, you are still in my duffle. bless your heart.
dootie saw something in the water.
jon jumped up faster than i've ever seen him move...
and pulled this giant snapper out of the water.
nearly peed my pants.
i mean...the look on his face. he was SO excited.
you never quite know what you'll come across on b.i.
cash register in the woods?
perhaps.
i wanted to nab it so bad.
but thought: WHAT IF IT BELONGS TO HOOKMAN?
he will likely come after me next time i sleep in the bunkhouse
{where the windows are even with the top bunks
and he can look right in at you
while he scratches his hook on the tin roof
and demands his register back!}
and i'm not willing to risk that.
beaver island toy store & museum has a darling gallery and garden out back.
{it deserves a dedicated post}
the weather was sunny and hot all weekend. it was perfect.
the island was really quiet
{except for us}
look at all the empty slips!
and that's all the b.i. we have time for today folks.
we're going back in august...wanna come?

reprinted from the original transparencies of noriyoshi ohrai.
and released in an edition of 500.
it's a rainbow of awesome.
for sale at the star wars shop.

peek leak
despite wrapping up the bathroom re-deux
AND my very aggressive landscaping plans,
AND my very aggressive landscaping plans,
a shop update is still on the docket for this weekend.
i've been hoarding this adorable paint-by-number
longer than i'm comfortable admitting.
longer than i'm comfortable admitting.
i KNOW someone will give her the prominent placement she deserves.
so, i'm setting her free.
{or is it a he?}
the vintage tin saga continues.
these dark avocado spice tins nestle together
in this teal-ish metal box ever so nicely.
in this teal-ish metal box ever so nicely.
i give this set bonus points for being flexible;
you don't have to use them together.
line up the tins in your kitchen and use the box for storage in your office.
dear fan,
so many things i love about you.
your dark orange center...
so dreamy.
last but not least...
beautiful blue pyrex.
i was hoping to shoot some more from the stash
but it's going to be a busy weekend...
got a pretty nice little saturday planned...
home depot...
maybe bed, bath, and beyond if we're lucky.
don't know if we'll have time.
{old school anyone?}
have a great weekend!
have a great weekend!
the illusion of trash.

these are all constructed from found bits of wood.
whose original color and texture are kept intact.
which means they're like giant puzzles you make up as you go.
well, not you. cause it seems impossibly hard.
but ron van der ende seems to have it mastered.
it must be like thinking in seven dimensions at once.
i also really love that he photographs them in the scrappy studio.
found at \\\
a small wonder
esty favorite tush tush first captured my heart with this print called "doll."
i love the thought of this little tiny canvas hanging in my studio.
{still in the planning stages}
envisioning it at my seated eyeline, just above the typewriter,
among a collage of my favorite bits.
little pop of red on the lips.
perfect.
then came my obsession with the other tiny portraits.
i'm spellbound by tiny things.
don't know what it is.
i'm spellbound by tiny things.
don't know what it is.
grouped together, they're a perfect solution for a small bit of wall
i've been trying to refresh.
right now i have some great graphic prints
but i'd like to warm it up
with some texture and humanity
sans parlor feel.
{love that aesthetic but it just wouldn't work
with my existing decor...maybe next time}
the only problem
is narrowing down the selection.
love the naomi prints.
there are nearly thirty others to choose from...
if you'e not familiar with tali's work;
find pastels, prints, and tiny canvases at tush tush,
animal prints at chin chie,
and illustrations at tosya.
sigh. just lovely.

i love lucy
you may have seen lucy on dreamcats.
{which is curated by this lovely and this lovely}
though, you may have seen her at one blue wren.
{which is a delightful visual playground chronicled by ashley
...you probably already knew that}
...you probably already knew that}
if you're like me, you stumbled upon her
while you were getting lost
in ash's inspiring flickr stream.
regardless, here she is again
in all of her kitteh glory.
making us melty.
{i'm about to clap my hands like a fool}
to be frank, i can't get enough of her.
the way her expressions are caputred...
i.could.die.
she seems to share my love
for occasional chairs and
she's wearing my favorite colors
for crying out loud.
don't you LOVE lucy?

drawing on the walls.

this is otto. he's 8.
he drew both of those sweet wallpaper patterns.
i'm especially fond of the mountains.
and since he has an awesome mom, you can enjoy them too.
sold at fine little day.

in my wildest dreams
seriously...
adorable animals
and beautiful wallpaper.
this is what my dreams look like.
no joke.
tito tuesday
hello.
is it me you're looking for?
it's gorge.
i put it in a treasury
and held out until it expired
to buy it.
{to keep the trej in tact}
risky move, eh?
at any rate,
in an attempt to keep a few select blankets
hair free*
it lives in the armoire when not in use.
tito just loves it too much.
{rest assured, she has PLENTY or gorgeous blankets}
nearly every morning when i open the armoire
she jumps in while i'm putting on my unders
and gets started on a bread bowl.
she proceeds to make herself comfortable
{very comfortable}
and stares at me from the depths.
her eyes say
i love you for blankets.
her mind says
make me move...
and i'll scoot on your pillows.
*if you have cats you know this is not possible
even on the cleanest of days.
you can test your levels by dropping a piece of chomped gum
in the area in question
and judge the hair-freeness
by the number of hairs stuck in it.
it's science.

{do not put it back in your mouth or give it to your dachshund.}
