peek leak

despite wrapping up the bathroom re-deux
AND my very aggressive landscaping plans,
a shop update is still on the docket for this weekend.

i've been hoarding this adorable paint-by-number
longer than i'm comfortable admitting.
i KNOW someone will give her the prominent placement she deserves.
so, i'm setting her free.
{or is it a he?}

the vintage tin saga continues.
these dark avocado spice tins nestle together
in this teal-ish metal box ever so nicely.
i give this set bonus points for being flexible;
you don't have to use them together.
line up the tins in your kitchen and use the box for storage in your office.

dear fan,
so many things i love about you.
your dark orange center...
so dreamy.

last but not least...
beautiful blue pyrex.

i was hoping to shoot some more from the stash
but it's going to be a busy weekend...
got a pretty nice little saturday planned...
home depot...
maybe bed, bath, and beyond if we're lucky.
don't know if we'll have time.
{old school anyone?}

have a great weekend!

the illusion of trash.

these are all constructed from found bits of wood.
whose original color and texture are kept intact.
which means they're like giant puzzles you make up as you go.
well, not you. cause it seems impossibly hard.
but ron van der ende seems to have it mastered.
it must be like thinking in seven dimensions at once.

i also really love that he photographs them in the scrappy studio.

a small wonder

esty favorite tush tush first captured my heart with this print called "doll."
i love the thought of this little tiny canvas hanging in my studio.
{still in the planning stages}
envisioning it at my seated eyeline, just above the typewriter,
among a collage of my favorite bits.
little pop of red on the lips.
perfect.
then came my obsession with the other tiny portraits.
i'm spellbound by tiny things.
don't know what it is.
grouped together, they're a perfect solution for a small bit of wall
i've been trying to refresh.
right now i have some great graphic prints
but i'd like to warm it up
with some texture and humanity
sans parlor feel.
{love that aesthetic but it just wouldn't work
with my existing decor...maybe next time}
the only problem
is narrowing down the selection.
love the naomi prints.
there are nearly thirty others to choose from...

if you'e not familiar with tali's work;
find pastels, prints, and tiny canvases at tush tush,
animal prints at chin chie,
and illustrations at tosya.
sigh. just lovely.

i love lucy

you may have seen lucy on dreamcats
{which is curated by this lovely and this lovely}

though, you may have seen her at one blue wren.
{which is a delightful visual playground chronicled by ashley
...you probably already knew that}

if you're like me, you stumbled upon her
while you were getting lost
in ash's inspiring flickr stream.

regardless, here she is again
in all of her kitteh glory.
making us melty.
{i'm about to clap my hands like a fool}
to be frank, i can't get enough of her.
the way her expressions are caputred...
i.could.die.
she seems to share my love
for occasional chairs and
she's wearing my favorite colors
for crying out loud.
don't you LOVE lucy?

come to find out, lucy is in a kitty cat contest at whiskas.com.
you should check it out if you have a moment.

in my wildest dreams

seriously...
adorable animals
and beautiful wallpaper.
this is what my dreams look like.
no joke.

tito tuesday

hello.
is it me you're looking for?

i bought the blanket in this photo
from the cottage cheese on etsy in march.
it's gorge.
i put it in a treasury
and held out until it expired
to buy it.
{to keep the trej in tact}
risky move, eh?

at any rate,
in an attempt to keep a few select blankets
hair free*
it lives in the armoire when not in use.
tito just loves it too much.
{rest assured, she has PLENTY or gorgeous blankets}
nearly every morning when i open the armoire
she jumps in while i'm putting on my unders
and gets started on a bread bowl.
she proceeds to make herself comfortable
{very comfortable}
and stares at me from the depths.
her eyes say
i love you for blankets.
her mind says
make me move...
and i'll scoot on your pillows.

*if you have cats you know this is not possible
even on the cleanest of days.
you can test your levels by dropping a piece of chomped gum
in the area in question
and judge the hair-freeness
by the number of hairs stuck in it.
it's science.
{do not put it back in your mouth or give it to your dachshund.}

tiny little window.

this is what all art should do: change your perceptions.
that staircase has no natural light.
daniel rybakken created the illusion with led panels.
relaxing your conscious and subconscious minds.

the practical applications of this are incredible.
tiny hole of an apartment no more.
it's the kind of thinking that reminds you how awesome humans are.

chromatic apocalypse.

you're intrigued aren't you?
tiny flickers of recognition deluged by twists of color.

this is the work of james roper.

i think it's brilliant.
incredible chaotic patterns. instantly recognizable elements.
combining to create something completely new and invigorating.
i want more.

paint that ewok fence.

i had no idea this ever existed.
probably because my parents loved me
and wouldn't let me play in a dixie cup 12 feet off the ground.

could this be more awesome and less safe? absolutely not.
guaranteed a 60 lb kid could flip that whole thing,
crushing his sister and dog in the process.
just imagine if you combined a trampoline with this thing.
flying jumps off a speeder bike, onto the tramp, onto the roof... magic
let's see a jedi try and heal a broken pelvis.

weight a minute.

not sure how many of you are into pumping the iron,
but these are too brilliant not to post.
so much easier than having to two-hand every plate.
plus you don't need the spring clips that never work.
expect to see these appearing in home gyms that've never seen sweat.

rosti photo via cooking light

we tried this rosti recipe last night.
whoa.
it was mighty fine.
like the kind of mighty fine
that forces you to have two servings.
even if you're already full.
i changed the recipe VERY slightly.
just added an onion for a little extra flave.
still awesome without the eggs if you're not a fan.
also read about a genius making these in muffin tins
so you get more crispy edges to nom.
if my muffin tin wasn't so dinky i would have tried that...
BRILLIANT.

rosti casserole
makes 8 servings (serving size: 1 piece)

ingredients
1 1/4 cup fat free plain greek yogurt
2 T all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups grated peeled turnip (about 8 ounces, 2 small)
1 small diced onion
1 1/4 cups (5 ounces) shredded gruyere cheese
1/3 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup chopped fresh chives
1 1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp grated whole nutmeg (i used ground...)
30 oz. of shredded hash brown potatoes (like simply potatoes; or buy frozen and thaw before use)
cooking sprar
8 large eggs
chopped fresh chives (optional)
freshly ground black pepper (optional)

1. preheat oven to 400°.
2. combine yogurt and flour in a large bowl, stirring well. add turnip, onion, gruyère cheese, butter, chives, 1 1/4 teaspoons salt, black pepper, nutmeg, and potatoes to yogurt mixture. spread potato mixture evenly into a 13 x 9–inch baking dish coated with cooking spray. bake at 400° for 30 minutes or until bubbly. remove from oven. with the back of a spoon, make 8 indentations in top of potato mixture. crack 1 egg into each of 8 indentations. return dish to oven. bake at 400° for 8 minutes or until egg whites are firm and yolks barely move when pan is touched. cut into 8 pieces. garnish with additional chives and black pepper, if desired. serve immediately.

domestic problems.

solved.

mortar and well...ummm...

vintage mortar & pestle: made in france

i will start my day by:
1) editing photos from the weekend
2) finding a shot of this pestle that isn't as reminiscent of a ween
3) getting my head out of the gutter
4) shop update

weather: you like it or not.

rainbow factory from pearson-maron

we had some beautiful spring storms over the weekend.
my favorite part was the rainbows that followed.

taken from a moving vehicle with my iphone {QUALITY}

one lovely thing about living in the mitten state
is the range of weather.
{that's assuming you like all four seasons.}
we ave all sorts of weather.
all sorts of storms. hot...cold...
every kind of cloud.
the kinds you don't see everywhere.
{seriously, it's true...}
thunder that rumbles your home.
and strong summer sun that reminds you
how putting your now bleached sofa near the window
was a bad call.

ether floaters.

i want a spacesuit.
and a raygun.
and a time machine to visit the future.
...and a lightsaber while i'm being greedy.

i really love all of these pieces from derek stenning.
part of his entartete kunst series.
a gorgeous contrast to the nazi anti-modern art campaign.

time sure does fly...

last weekend marked
the first anniversary
{or is it birthday?}
of je voudrais que!
i can't believe it's been
a whole year.
{we're still just a baby}

looking back
over the past year
we've had some exciting activity
in our lives
je voudrais...
home renovations...
we tied the knot on new years eve...

and it's been really cool
sharing it all with you.

so, thank you.
for visiting.
for your lovely comments and emails.
and for coming back for more.
{we think it's like the coolest thing ever}

cheers!
